Mumbai rains flood streets, Andheri subway shut; more showers forecasted

Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread waterlogging across Mumbai, forcing the Mumbai Traffic Police to shut down the Andheri Subway. On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for several districts, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall.

Reports indicate consistent showers in areas like Ghatkopar, expected to last at least until 10 AM. The IMD also predicts more rains across Maharashtra in the coming week, with Pune, Satara, and Raigad among the regions on alert.

Rail services have been partially affected—Central and Harbour line trains are facing delays, while Western line trains remain largely on schedule.

The Andheri Subway was closed after 1–1.5 feet of waterlogging made it unfit for vehicle movement. Traffic has been diverted via Gokhale Bridge and Thackeray Bridge, as per the Mumbai Traffic Police’s advisory shared on X (formerly Twitter).
