DGCA issues multiple notices to Air India over duty, training violations

India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), issued four show cause notices to Air India on July 24 over multiple safety and operational violations. These notices follow Air India’s own voluntary disclosures to the DGCA, made in June, regarding breaches in cabin crew rest norms, duty regulations, and training protocols.

According to sources, three of the notices are linked to issues flagged by Air India on June 20, which revealed non-compliance with rest and duty rules on at least four ultra long-haul flights operated between April 27 and May 2. Additionally, another notice cited violations of flight duty period and weekly rest limits for flights operated on June 24, 2024, and June 13, 2025.

Air India also disclosed further lapses in training and operational procedures during flights that took place between April 10–11, February 16–May 19, and December 1, 2024. The fourth notice is based on this June 21 disclosure.

Air India acknowledged the notices in a statement, confirming that they stem from voluntary disclosures made over the past year. The airline stated it will respond to the DGCA within the stipulated timeframe and reiterated its commitment to the safety of both crew and passengers.
