SC stays Bombay HC order in 2006 Mumbai blasts case, no return to jail

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the July 21 judgment of the Bombay High Court that had overturned the conviction and sentences of 12 individuals in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case. This came after the Maharashtra Government appealed the acquittal, though it clarified that it is not seeking to revoke the release of those acquitted.

A bench comprising Justices M M Nagresh and N K Singh issued a notice on the state’s appeal and stated that the High Court’s verdict will not be treated as a precedent in any other matter until further orders.
