The NIA accuses four individuals of encouraging Maoist activity in Chhattisgarh
Four additional defendants have been charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a case involving the purported encouragement of Maoist activity in Chhattisgarh. It said that Mallesh Kunjam, a Maoist who is evading justice, and Sunita Potam, Shankar Muchaki, and Dashrath alias Dasru Modiyam, office bearers of the Moolwasi Bachao Manch (MBM), gathered and distributed money for Maoists.
The money was purportedly used through MBM to plan anti-government demonstrations and thwart development initiatives in regions affected by left-wing extremism. After ₹6 lakh was taken from MBM employees Gajendra Madvi and Laxman Kunjam, three people were previously prosecuted in the May 2023 case. In November 2023, the two were charged with carrying the money to deposit it in a bank at the direction of Maoist officials.
In February 2024, the NIA assumed responsibility for the case's investigation. In August 2025, it submitted its first supplemental charge sheet, listing Raghu Midiyami, Madvi, and Laxman Kunjam as additional defendants. Of the seven defendants in the case, six have been taken into custody.
