After the "I Love Muhammad" controversy, tensions are rising in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Here's why

In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, tensions have returned. Internet access was still blocked in the city of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, and security guards were stationed in mosques in advance of Friday prayers this evening. This action follows last week's violent riots in the city following the demonstration's cancellation because of the 'I Love Muhammad' controversy.

Tensions from the 'I Love Muhammad' controversy still exist in the city as it struggles with the fallout from these altercations. Following Friday prayers, more than 2,000 demonstrators and police engaged in combat outside a mosque last week. 81 people were later arrested as a result of these protests.

Angry demonstrators with banners that read "I love Muhammad" gathered at Raza's home and a nearby mosque as a result of the last-minute announcement.  "Law enforcement officials had been interacting with the public and encouraging them to pray in a nonviolent manner. However, a gang of agitators appeared out of nowhere and began to act violently, firing and throwing stones. Reporters were informed by Bareilly's DIG AK Sahni that extensive photographic and video documentation of the incident had been taken.
