The stock market begins lower, with the Sensex down about 200 points and the Nifty down more than 30
On Friday, March 7, the trading day started with the stock market in the red, with the biggest declines occurring in IT, banking, and financial services firms. The benchmark BSE Sensex dropped 176.47 points, or 0.24 percent, to 74,163.62 at 9:15 a.m. The larger NSE Nifty began at 22,508.65, down 36.05 points, or 0.16 percent.
This follows US President Donald Trump's announcement in a joint session of the US Congress that, starting on April 2, he will impose reciprocal duties on nations such as India.
Out of the 30 Sensex equities, Infosys experienced the worst decline on Thursday, opening at ₹1,688.40, down 1.45%. Following this were Zomato, which down 1.15 percent, trading at ₹222.80, and Tech Mahindra, which was down 1.24 percent, trading at ₹1485.
