As production costs rise, the Karnataka government prepares to raise milk prices. Specifics
K Venkatesh, the minister of animal husbandry for Karnataka, declared on Wednesday that the state would raise milk prices in response to the increasing demands of dairy farmers. However, after consulting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a final decision regarding the magnitude of the hike will be made.
Venkatesh stressed in his Legislative Council speech that farmers' demands for a price revision are warranted given the rising costs of production. "We are taking into account both farmers' concerns and consumer interests before implementing the new pricing," he stated.
According to some reports, the proposed price rise might result in a ₹5 increase for consumers, making a liter of Nandini milk cost ₹47 instead of ₹44. The final increase has not yet been formally announced by the state administration, though.
