At the Gujarat National Wildlife Board meeting, PM Modi announces the lion census.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the National Board for Wildlife's sixth meeting here on Monday, on the occasion of the World Wildlife Day, and announced the Asiatic lion population assessment to be held in May this year. Modi left for the NBWL conference in Sasan, Gujarat's Junagadh district, shortly after finishing his lion safari in Gir National Park in the morning. Bhupender Yadav, the Union Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, was among those there.
In addition to announcing the 16th Asiatic lion population estimate, which is scheduled for May of this year, Modi also lay the foundation stone for the National Referral Centre-Wildlife in Junagadh.
The Chief of Army Staff, members from various states, representatives from non-governmental organizations involved in wildlife conservation, chief wildlife wardens, and secretaries from various states are among the 47 members of the NBWL, a statutory body that advises the government on wildlife conservation.
