Bengaluru commuters demand a reverse of the fare hike and demonstrate inside Metro trains.
Residents in Bengaluru protested the higher ticket costs on metro trains on Sunday, one month after the city's metro rate hike was put into effect. A number of commuters held signs expressing their displeasure with the exorbitant fares, which many feel are compelling people to choose private vehicles over public transportation.
On X, author Avinash Chanchal posted pictures of the demonstration, which showed people inside metro coaches calling for the fee hike to be immediately rolled down. Chanchal wrote in his article, "A month after the metro fare hike, commuters and citizens in Bengaluru have come together inside the metro, urging authorities to revoke the recent hike."
Additionally, he cautioned that as more people abandon public transit, rising ticket costs may result in worsened pollution and more traffic. "Higher fares will only discourage public transport use, exacerbating pollution, traffic congestion, and the climate crisis," he stated.
