Eid-ul-Fitr

The Haryana government has announced that Eid-ul-Fitr, set to be observed on March 31, 2025, will be marked as a restricted holiday instead of a gazetted holiday due to its coincidence with the closing day of the financial year 2024-25.

A restricted holiday allows employees to choose whether to take leave, unlike gazetted holidays, which mandate closures for government offices and banks.

This decision ensures that offices remain operational on March 31, a critical day for financial transactions. The Reserve Bank of India has also canceled its earlier declaration of March 31 as a bank holiday for similar reasons. Eid-ul-Fitr's observance depends on the moon sighting, and if the moon is sighted on March 31, the celebration will shift to April 1. Additionally, extended holidays are expected in Jammu & Kashmir for Shab-I-Qadr and Ramzan Eid during this period.
