Farmer leader Joginder Ugrahan held, protesters halted in Punjab’s Barnala

Joginder Singh Ugrahan, the president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan), was detained in Sangrur on Wednesday when he was en route to Chandigarh to participate in the Samyukt Kisan Morcha march for protest.

When Ugrahan, the leader of a faction with a sizable following, was heading to join the march from Gharachon hamlet in Bhawanigarh tehsil of Sangrur district, he was stopped by police at Mehlan Chowk. He was brought to the police station in Chhajli.

In order to deter a group of about 1,000 activists from several farmer unions from traveling to Chandigarh to perform a dharna in the morning, they were stopped at the Badbar toll booth near Barnala on National Highway-7.
