Growing millet and maize instead of rice could increase farmer incomes: study

Delhi, According to a recent study, switching from growing rice to other grains like millet, maize, and sorghum could help reduce production losses caused by climate change by 11%, which could increase farmer earnings.

It is well known that Indian farmers favor harvesting rice due to its economic feasibility. A sizeable portion of the nation's rice output comes from the major producers, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Hey went on to say that fluctuations in the market price of a crop have a significant impact on farmers' decisions about how much land area to grow that crop, which may have an effect on their earnings.

The scientists stated in the journal Nature Communications that "optimized allocations of harvested area can reduce climate-induced production loss by 11% or improve farmer net profit by 11% while maintaining calorie production and cropland area."
