How is 14.8 kg of gold purportedly smuggled out of Dubai by Ranya Rao? The agency clarifies

After reportedly smuggling 14.8 kg of gold from Dubai attached to her body, Kannada cinema star Ranya Rao was detained in one of the biggest gold seizures at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport in recent years.

Following a tip regarding her arrival at the airport, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained Rao, 33, on March 3. Rao is the stepdaughter of a top DGP-rank IPS officer in Karnataka. The DRI verified that the gold bars were discovered on Rao during a physical examination, despite suspicions that she had concealed them under her jacket.

"Gold bars weighing 14.2 kg were found cleverly concealed on (her) person upon examination," the DRI said. According to reports, Ranya Rao used tape and crepe bandages to secure 14 old bars, weighing around one kilogram each, to her thighs. She then covered them up with jeans.
