After being caught for smuggling 14.2 kg of gold valued at ₹12.56 crore, actor Ranya Rao described how she was given the illegal item at Dubai International Airport and then tried to carry it to Bengaluru.
During her interrogation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ranya Rao disclosed that she had been contacted via the internet to pick up the gold from Dubai International Airport's Gate A of Terminal 3. She had also mentioned that she had never smuggled gold before.
Two weeks before to her vacation, she had reported receiving calls from international numbers. The star went on to say that at the airport dining area, she picked up two packets from an unidentified man wearing a white robe. According to NDTV, which cited official papers, the gold had been wrapped in a "thick tarpaulin plastic type" material.
