Jamia Millia Islamia rape case
Jamia Millia Islamia University terminated the services of an assistant professor from the Department of Political Science following his arrest over allegations of raping a 31-year-old lecturer on the pretext of marriage.
The accused, a contractual employee, allegedly promised to marry the complainant and established physical relations with her starting June 2024. Their families were involved in marriage discussions, but the proposal was rejected due to "unmatched horoscopes," leading to the accused withdrawing his commitment. An FIR was registered, and the accused was arrested by Delhi Police.
The university emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards violence against women and assured adherence to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013. It also reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe working environment through gender sensitization workshops and legal processes to ensure justice.
