‘No commitments’: India clarifies after Donald Trump’s tariff cut claim

President Donald Trump claimed that New Delhi had agreed to decrease tariffs, but the Center has denied pledging to do so, according to The Times of India. The Centre on Tuesday told a Parliamentary panel that it had made “no commitments to the US on the issue", the report added.

According to the article, the administration "has sought time until September to address the issue that is being flagged by the American president on a regular basis."

Additionally, it stated that during an appearance before the Parliamentary standing committee on external affairs, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal stated that India and the United States were focusing on a bilateral trade agreement that would benefit both parties, with a focus on long-term collaboration rather than short-term tariff changes.
