The High Court CJ's investigation report against Justice Yashwant Varma will be released by the Supreme Court "to restore public faith"
The Supreme Court of India has initiated an in-house inquiry into allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma, a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, following the alleged discovery of ₹15 crore in cash at his official residence after a fire incident.
Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna constituted a three-member panel comprising Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice GS Sandhawalia, and Justice Anu Sivaraman to investigate the matter.
As part of the procedure, Justice Varma has been temporarily relieved of judicial duties, and related documents, including his response and the report from the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, are being uploaded on the Supreme Court's website for transparency.
Additionally, Justice Varma has been transferred to his parent court in Allahabad, a move clarified as unrelated to the ongoing inquiry.
This controversy adds to past legal troubles faced by Justice Varma, including his involvement in the Simbhaoli Sugar Mill fraud case investigated by the CBI, which was ultimately dismissed by the Supreme Court in 2024.
