‘There should be limits’: Eknath Shinde reacts to Kunal Kamra row, defends vandalism
According to Eknath Shinde, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, "we understand satire, but there should be limit" in response to the controversy over Kunal Kamra's purported joke about him.
After allegedly making a "gaddar" (traitor) joke on Shiv Sena president Eknath Shinde on Sunday, comedian Kunal Kamra courted a huge controversy. Kamra had apparently made fun of Shinde by altering a song from the Hindi film "Dil Toh Pagal Hai" without naming anyone.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged Kamra to apologize for his "low-level comedy" after Shiv Sena leaders strongly criticized him for his comments. In his opening remarks on the dispute, Shinde stated, "Freedom of speech exists and we understand satire, but there should be a limit." Shinde further said that the comedian's purported joke against him is "like taking a'supari' (contract) to speak against someone," in what appeared to be a jab at the opposition.
