This gram panchayat near Bengaluru ensures insurance for all, a first in Karnataka: Report

Marasur, a small village on Bengaluru’s outskirts, is setting a new benchmark in social security. Every eligible person in this state is now protected by a life insurance plan, which is a first for Karnataka and guarantees families financial stability during difficult times.

The gram panchayat (GP) that governs eight villages—Marasur, Naganayakanahalli, Madivala, Bandapura, Agrahara, Shettihalli, Adesonatti, and Haleooru—is situated around 8 km from Chandapura along the Bengaluru-Hosur route. 9,319 individuals between the ages of 18 and 70 are eligible for life insurance out of the 15,531 residents of the panchayat.

The GP worked with Christ University to survey current coverage in order to bring universal insurance to fruition. According to the research, 1,877 persons were still without insurance, even though 80% of the population had some kind of coverage.
