Union home ministry gives go ahead to ED to prosecute Kejriwal
The move comes months after the Supreme Court in November ruled that the ED also has to take prior sanction for prosecution in the money laundering cases.
The Union home ministry has given the go-ahead to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal over the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
The move comes months after the Supreme Court on November 6 ruled the ED also has to take prior sanction like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for prosecution under section 197 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (now section 218 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita) in money laundering cases.
