Do you scroll social media before sleeping? Study says it leads to insomnia

The majority of us have made it a habit to go to bed at night and begin browsing social media or watching material on over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Here's what we don't know, though. A big study of college students in Norway found that we lose 24 minutes of sleep for every hour we spend on screens at night.

45,654 full-time students between the ages of 18 and 28 had their data analyzed for the study, which was published in Frontiers in Psychiatry. The students were asked to respond to questions on their sleep habits, the kinds of activities they did, and how often they used screens before bed.

The participants were divided into three groups according to their responses. People who only used social media made up the first group; those who combined social media with other screen-based activities made up the second group; and those who avoided social media use but engaged in other activities made up the third group.
