DHL halts global B2C shipments of over $800 to US amid new customs regulations

DHL Express, a company of Germany's Deutsche Post, has announced that it will cease global business-to-consumer shipments worth more than $800 to individuals in the United States beginning April 21, due to changes in US customs regulations that have increased clearing times. The notification on the company's website was not dated, but its metadata indicated it was created on Saturday.

DHL blamed the halt on new US customs regulations that demand formal entry processing for any shipments valued more than $800. The minimum had previously been $2,500, but that changed on April 5. DHL stated that business-to-business shipments will not be suspended but could be delayed. The adjustments did not affect shipments of less than $800 to businesses or households.

The corporation stated that the shift is only temporary. In response to Reuters questions last week, DHL stated that it would continue to process shipments from Hong Kong to the United States "in accordance with the applicable customs rules and regulations" and that it would "work with our customers to help them understand and adapt to the changes that are planned for May 2."
