Delhi to Host Large-Scale Yoga Events This Year: CM Gupta
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced that the Delhi government will organize large-scale International Yoga Day celebrations at 11 locations across the city on June 21, signaling a significant shift from the previous administration’s approach.
Speaking at the inauguration of an Ayurvedic kitchen at Maharshi Ayurveda Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, Gupta highlighted yoga’s cultural and spiritual importance, calling it more than just a health trend.
“For the first time, the Delhi government will hold yoga events at 11 different locations,” she said. “I will participate at the Yamuna riverbank, encouraging people to reconnect with their cultural roots.”
Gupta also spoke of her personal bond with the Yamuna River, describing it as a reminder of her commitment to environmental cleanup and preservation.
Although exact event venues have yet to be announced, officials stated that locations will be spread citywide and will be open to the public.
Criticizing the former AAP-led government, Gupta accused it of neglecting yoga due to its association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Yoga was politicized by the previous administration. Now, we are bringing it back as a cultural and health-driven movement,” she said.
Gupta concluded by emphasizing yoga’s role in India’s heritage, saying it should be embraced as a holistic lifestyle practice by every citizen.
