Rahul Gandhi calls the Modi government's assault on democracy in Colombia a "threat" to India

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and a Congress MP, attacked the NDA-led federal government on Thursday, claiming that the "attack on democracy" poses a serious threat to India. Gandhi was giving a speech at a gathering at Colombia's EIA University. He emphasized the value of a democratic system in a multicultural country, pointing out that India has "structural flaws."

India has great potential in fields like engineering and medicine, so I have high hopes for the nation. However, India must also address the structural shortcomings. Gandhi said, "The attack on democracy occurring in India is the biggest challenge. A democratic system is necessary for many traditions, cultures, and ideas, including religious views, to flourish in variety, the Congress leader emphasized.

Gandhi, however, claimed that there is a "major risk" or threat to India's democratic system itself. "India has many different religions, customs, and languages—in fact, the country is basically a conversation between all these people and cultures," the Lok Sabha LoP added. The democratic system is the most effective means of establishing the space needed for many customs, faiths, and ideologies.
