Writing to President Murmu, Sonam Wangchuk's wife copies PM Modi and Shah

Gitanjali Angmo, the wife of incarcerated activist Sonam Wangchuk, wrote to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, citing her tribal heritage to help her comprehend the sentiments of the Ladakh people in light of the protests and her husband's detention. Angmo demands the "unconditional release" of Sonam Wangchuk, a "peaceful Gandhian protester" who is fighting for climate change and the advancement of a backward tribal region, in the letter she also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

After violent rallies demanding that Ladakh be granted statehood and rights under the Sixth Schedule, Sonam Wangchuk was jailed in Leh last week. He was taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail and charged under the strict National Security Act (NSA). Leh Inspector Rigzin Gurmet notified Angmo on September 26 that Wangchuk had been arrested under Section 3(2) of the NSA and was being sent to Jodhpur Central Jail, according to Angmo.

She claimed that when she landed, ASP Rishabh Shukla, who they claimed was traveling with Wangchuk to Jodhpur, would force her to talk to him.
