All passengers on board the Air India flight are safe once the emergency engine is turned on
The backup power device, the Ram Air Turbine (RAT), was engaged during the final approach of an Air India flight from Amritsar to Birmingham on Saturday, resulting in a safe landing. The airline verified that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight AI117's hydraulic and electrical systems were operating as intended.
According to an Air India representative cited by news agency ANI, the airplane made a safe landing and no passengers or crew were hurt. The plane's return flight from Birmingham to Delhi has been canceled, and it has been grounded for additional inspections. In order to accommodate the impacted passengers, the carrier stated that other arrangements were being made.
"On October 4, 2025, the operating crew of flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham noticed the aircraft's Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deploying during the last approach. The aircraft made a safe landing at Birmingham after all hydraulic and electrical parameters were determined to be normal. AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi has been canceled due to the aircraft being grounded for additional inspections, and other plans are being developed to accommodate the visitors," an Air India representative informed ANI.
