Monday will mark the opening of Arunachal Pradesh's first commercial coal mine

On October 6, 2025, Arunachal Pradesh will open its first commercial coal mine at the Namchik-Namphuk coal block in Changlang district. The Bhoomi Poojan will be performed by Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy as the centerpiece of the inauguration ceremony, following which the mining lease will be formally transferred. Following that, he will plant 100 trees as part of the ministry's green initiative and flag off Coal Projects Private Limited's (CPPL) equipment to the coal site.

According to a statement from the Coal Ministry, the Namchik-Namphuk block, which has 1.5 crore tons of reserves, was first allotted in 2003 but had numerous delays and stoppages because of operational difficulties. In 2022, it was brought back to life through an open auction process, which made it possible for the private sector to get involved in Arunachal's mining industry.

Arunachal Pradesh, which is now the second-largest coal producer in the world, declared that this is the start of its coal adventure. The ministry claims that this project continues Prime Minister Narendra Modi EAST vision, which stands for Empower, Act, Strengthen, Transform, and serves as a compass for all Northeastern initiatives.
