Sonia Gandhi on sneaker thrown at Chief Justice Gavai in Supreme Court: "Assault not just on him."

Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress parliamentary party, has denounced the Supreme Court incident on Monday in which a lawyer attempted to assault Chief Justice of India BR Gavai by throwing a shoe at him. "The attack on the Honourable Chief Justice of India at the Supreme Court itself is beyond words. It is an attack on our Constitution as much as on him. Sonia Gandhi's statement said, "Chief Justice Gavai has been very gracious, but the nation must stand in solidarity with him united with a deep sense of anguish and outrage."

The startling declaration follows allegations that during a court hearing, 71-year-old attorney Rakesh Kishore nearly threw a sneaker at CJI Gavai but was restrained by security guards. The event happened on Monday during the hearing of counsel mentions of cases before a bench presided over by the CJI. He has been suspended from practicing law by the Bar Council of India for violating decorum in the wake of the incident.

The attorney went over to the dais, took off his shoe, and attempted to hurl it at the chief justice. But the attack was stopped when the security guards stepped in right away and led him out of the courthouse. "The attorney is in his seventies and holds several bar association cards," a top official stated. He expressed his displeasure with the CJI's remarks made at the hearing at Khajurao Temple. "Sanatan dharma ka apmaan nhi sahega Hindustan" was written on a paper he also purchased.
