Cuttack is on high alert because the city is closed and the internet and social media are off

Cuttack, Odisha, has been tense since violent altercations broke out during an idol immersion parade during Durga Puja. To restore peace, the state administration has put tough measures in place, such as a curfew and internet shutdown. To curb the rising violence, the Odisha government imposed a 36-hour curfew on Sunday night throughout the 13 Cuttack police station areas. Important localities like Dargah Bazaar, Mangalabag, Purighat, Lal Bagh, and Jagatpur are all impacted by the curfew, which started at 10 p.m. on Sunday.

From 7 p.m. on Sunday until 7 p.m. on Monday, internet and messaging services, including WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, and Snapchat, were shut down in 42 Mauza areas, Cuttack Municipal Corporation, and Cuttack Development Authority. "Inflammatory and provocative messages" were named by authorities as the cause.

When several residents protested loud music during an immersion parade late Friday night near Haathi Pokhari, the rioting in Cuttack started. DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo was among the several people hurt as the altercation turned violent and involved throwing bottles and stones from roofs.
