‘You go to Mauritius and say…’: CJI BR Gavai shoe attacker Rakesh Kishore reacts
A day after trying to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court, 71-year-old attorney Rakesh Kishore defended his actions on Tuesday, claiming that the CJI's comments at a prior hearing concerning a religious matter had "deeply hurt" him. Kishore's license has been immediately suspended by the Bar Council of India.
A CJI-led bench was discussing cases on Monday when the remarkable episode occurred. Witnesses claim that Rakesh Kishore abruptly moved to the dais on the elevated platform, took off his shoe, and tried to toss it in the direction of the judges. The attempt was swiftly stopped by security personnel.
"The Chief Justice should understand the meaning of 'Milord' and uphold its dignity, given his high constitutional position," Kishore stated. When you visit Mauritius, you declare that the nation will not be governed by bulldozers. I pose this question to the CJI and my opponents: Was Yogi (Adityanath) ji's use of bulldozers against individuals who had encroached on government land wrong? I have been and will remain harmed.
