Omar Yaghi, Richard Robson, and Susumu Kitagawa are awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi have been granted the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for the development of metal–organic frameworks." The three laureates created a novel kind of molecular architecture, according to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

"The metal-organic frameworks they constructed include sizable cavities that allow molecules to enter and exit. They have been utilized by researchers to store hydrogen, remove contaminants from water, trap carbon dioxide, and harvest water from desert air," the announcement stated. The laureates have given chemists new ways to address some of their problems by creating metal-organic frameworks.

Richard Robson of the University of Melbourne, Omar M. Yaghi of the University of California, and Susumu Kitagawa of Kyoto University in Japan will each receive a one-third portion of the Nobel Prize. Three individuals were given the Nobel Prize in Chemistry last year for their revolutionary discoveries to protein science: Demis Hassabis, John M. Jumper, and David Baker each received half of the prize.
