Sensex, Nifty 50 today: Stock market opens in red; auto, pharma, IT and telecom down the most

Today's Sensex and Nifty 50: On Thursday, March 27, the stock market started the trading session lower. The biggest declines were in mid- and small-cap IT and telecom companies, auto, and pharmaceuticals. US President Donald Trump's new vehicle import tariffs damaged investor mood, which caused auto stocks to decline.

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell 201.11 points, or 0.26 percent, to 77,087.39 at 9.15 a.m. The larger NSE Nifty began at 23,452.15, down 34.70 points, or 0.15 percent. When the market opened, Tata Motors dropped 4.80%, trading at ₹673.95, the most of the 30 Sensex firms. Following this were Asian Paints, which was up 0.90 percent at ₹2,305.30, and Axis Bank, which was down 1.39 percent at ₹1,080.40. Of the Sensex stocks, eleven were up.

The Nifty Auto Index experienced the worst decline of all of the Nifty sectors indexes, falling 2.08 percent to 21,291.20, followed by Nifty Pharma, which lost 0.83 percent to 21,183.70, and Nifty Consumer Midsmall IT & Telecom, which down 0.81 percent to 9,182.50.
