Donald Trump threatens Canada, EU with more tariffs if ‘they harm US economically’

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose further tariffs on Canada and the European Union if they cooperate "to do economic harm" to the US. Trump stated that significant tariffs "far larger than currently planned" would be imposed on certain nations in a late-night Truth Social post.

"If the European Union works with Canada to do economic harm to the USA, large-scale Tariffs, far larger than currently planned, will be placed on them both to protect the best friend that each of those two countries has ever had!" Trump said on his TruthSocial account.

Hours after declaring 25% tariffs on vehicle imports and parts, the US president issued the warning, sparking warnings of reprisals from trading partners in anticipation of other planned trade penalties the following week. Ahead of Trump's announcement on Wednesday afternoon, Wall Street fell, and Toyota, the best-selling car in the world, fell more than 3%.
