The trade battle between Donald Trump and Canada is intensifying, and Ottawa is now considering imposing $20 billion in retaliatory duties on the US.
Canada versus Donald Trump Trade Wars: According to a senior Canadian government official cited by the Associated Press, Ottawa is currently preparing to declare a $29.8 billion ($20.7 billion) retaliatory tariff for the US in the midst of a de-war between neighbors Canada and the US.
Donald Trump declared his intention to boost the import duties on Canadian steel and aluminum from 25% to 50% on Tuesday. Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday, "I have directed my Secretary of Commerce to impose an additional 25 percent tariff, up to 50 percent, on all steel and aluminum entering the United States from Canada, one of the highest tariffing nations anywhere in the world."
Shortly after, on Tuesday afternoon, US President Donald Trump reversed course and canceled the 50% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.
