HC asks Centre, Delhi govt to disclose regulatory mechanism for blood banks in city

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has requested that the federal government and the local administration reveal the system in place to oversee blood banks in the nation's capital. On March 26, the high court requested answers from the Delhi government's health and family welfare department and the Center over a plea to make blood donation services in blood banks available 24/7.

The authorities were notified about the plea by a bench consisting of Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, who requested that they respond within four weeks. On July 9, the bench scheduled a follow-up hearing. "The respondents shall disclose as to what is the regulatory mechanism imposed to regulate blood banks in the territory of Delhi while filing the affidavit in reply," the bench stated.

The high court was considering a public interest case that sought to order the federal government to take action to ensure that blood banks' donation services are available 24/7.
