Myanmar earthquake: PM Narendra Modi dials Junta chief as death toll jumps to over 1,000

Myanmar earthquake: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the country's military-run administration, on Saturday to offer his sincere condolences for the deaths caused by the tragic earthquake that struck Myanmar. PM Narendra Modi reiterated India's commitment to helping its neighbor in this situation on the social media site X.

Modi added that India supports the nation in its efforts to recover from the devastating effects of a powerful earthquake that struck the region. "I spoke with Myanmar's Senior General, H.E. Min Aung Hlaing. expressed our sincere sorrow on the fatalities caused by the terrible earthquake. India supports the people of Myanmar at this trying time as a close friend and neighbor," Modi wrote on X.

India responded quickly by launching "Operation Brahma," which involves sending search and rescue personnel, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief supplies to the impacted areas as soon as possible. "As part of #OperationBrahma, search and rescue teams, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief materials are being swiftly sent to the affected areas," Modi continued. As part of the mission, 15 tonnes of humanitarian supplies have already been sent to Myanmar.
