‘Tahawwur Rana's extradition result of UPA-era diplomacy, Modi govt only reaping credit’: Chidambaram

Former home minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram claimed on Thursday that the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi only profited from the "mature, consistent, and strategic diplomacy" that had been established during the UPA era and did not start the extradition procedure for Tahawwur Rana.

A Canadian national who was born in Pakistan and was a major suspect in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Tahawwur Rana, is being extradited from the United States after the Supreme Court there denied his last attempt to stop the transfer.

According to Chidambaram, the extradition was not made possible by any breakthrough made by the Modi government, and it was not the consequence of "chest-thumping" or "grandstanding." Rather, he claimed, the development demonstrated what the Indian government is capable of accomplishing through genuine diplomacy, efficient law enforcement, and international collaboration.
