Two dead in Waqf-related violence in West Bengal's Murshidabad: Police

After protests over the Waqf Act sparked violent clashes in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, the chief minister declared that the law would not be implemented in the state after the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused her of doing nothing about the uproar.

Police say 118 people have been taken into custody so far in relation to Friday's violence in the neighborhood. In the face of new violence from Dhulian in Murshidabad on Saturday, Mamata Banerjee took to the microblogging site X and stated, "Remember, we did not make the law over which many are agitated." The central government created the law. Therefore, you should ask the central government for the response you desire.

Our stance on this issue is unambiguous: we oppose this legislation. This law will not be implemented in our state. In her article, Mamata Banerjee questioned, "So, what is the riot about?" West Bengal was rocked by protests against the Waqf Act on Friday, when protesters set cars on fire and interfered with train and vehicle traffic.
