Tamil Nadu Guv RN Ravi asks college students to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram', sparks row

At a function held on Saturday at a private engineering college in Madurai, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi sparked a debate by encouraging students to chant "Jai Shri Ram." The main guest at the college event, Ravi, abruptly called for the chant as he concluded his remarks to the students.

A dispute resulted from the incident, with Congress MLA JMH Hassan Maulaana claiming that the governor's comments were extremely offensive because they used terminology that was similar to those of the BJP and RSS. He went on to say that such statements were inappropriate for R N Ravi's constitutional position.

"The governor is speaking like a religious leader despite holding one of the top positions in the nation. He is now an expert in BJP and RSS propaganda. The Velachery MLA told ANI, "You see, the governor cannot act in this manner." "The TN Governor is preaching the philosophy of the RSS and behaving like its face in Tamil Nadu, which is absolutely unacceptable. Since his job is constitutional, he must maintain his objectivity," he continued.
