Law minister's jibe at Mamata Banerjee over Waqf law refusal: ‘CAA was implemented in Bengal’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was criticized by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday for not enforcing the Waqf law in her state. The law minister added that the West Bengal chief minister's comments criticizing the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which was passed in parliament, were "not right" during a celebration held to honor Babasaheb Ambedkar on the anniversary of his birth.

Meghwal added that although Banerjee had made similar comments regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the state had eventually put it into effect. "She said something similar during CAA," he claimed. However, Bengal adopted the CAA. It is a law that was passed by Parliament and is in effect throughout India.

In a post on X, Mamata Banerjee declared that she would oppose the Waqf bill and would not let "divide and rule" to occur in Bengal. "Some people will incite you to gather and start a movement," she added. I'm going to urge everyone not to do it. Please keep in mind that Didi (Banerjee) will guard you and your belongings while she is present. Let us have faith in one another.
