Karnataka govt will discuss and decide on caste census report in cabinet: Mallikarjun Kharge

On Thursday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the Karnataka government, which is run by the party, will discuss the Socio-Economic and Education Survey report, also referred to as the "caste census," in the cabinet and make a suitable conclusion.

The Rajya Sabha's Leader of the Opposition declined to comment on the report, stating that he had not yet seen it. Each state handles it on its own; it is left to the state government. The central government did not do this. The state administration will decide after deliberating in the cabinet. The report is not visible to me. Kharge told reporters here that the state administration is in charge of the situation. When asked if there was disagreement to the report, he responded, "There may be opposition." I have expressed my viewpoint.

The controversial 'caste census' will be discussed at a special Karnataka cabinet meeting on Thursday, presided over by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, amid what appears to be a caste dilemma. Many communities, particularly the two largest in Karnataka, the Vokkaligas and Veershaiva-Lingayats, have voiced serious concerns about the completed poll, describing it as "unscientific." They have called for its rejection and the conducting of a new study. Many facets of society have also voiced their objections, and the ruling Congress has also heard considerable opposition.
