‘India going to drop tariffs substantially’: Trump's bold claim ahead of ‘Liberation Day’

During a news conference on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump stated that he has learned that India intends to significantly reduce tariffs on American goods. "I think I heard that India just a little while ago is going to be dropping its tariffs very substantially and I said why didn't somebody do this a long time ago," he continued.

Policymakers worldwide have been on edge as a result of the remarks, which come just before Washington announces reciprocal duties on April 2. India was also named by the White House as one of the countries that are "unfair" and harming US exporters by charging exorbitant prices. India imposes a 100 percent tariff on American agricultural exports, making it "virtually impossible" for US goods to enter some overseas markets, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Leavitt stated, "These countries have been ripping off our nation for far too long," adding that they have demonstrated blatant contempt for American workers. Leavitt remarked, "India has a 100% tariff on American agricultural products." The US President "is going to make historic changes, and that will happen on Wednesday," Leavitt stated, adding that "it’s time for reciprocity."
