Karnataka CM writes to Rahul Gandhi on preparing draft of Rohith Vemula Act
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, notifying him that he has directed his legal advisor and staff to develop the Rohith Vemula Act, legislation that will serve as a deterrent to discrimination in educational institutions. The action comes a day after Siddaramaiah stated that the state government is committed to enacting the Rohith Vemula Act in Karnataka as soon as possible, after Gandhi urged him to do so to ensure that no one confronts caste-based discrimination in the school system.
"The reference in your letter of April 16, 2025, to the occurrence described by Dr. B R Ambedkar is a sad fact even today. In his letter to the Congress leader, Siddaramaiah stated that no kid or adult should have to experience the shame and stigma that Babasaheb did.
The Karnataka chief minister assured that he and his government are committed to building an egalitarian and equal society, saying, "We must work together to bring the Dalits, Adivasis, and Backward Classes into the mainstream." That the disadvantaged classes should no longer face prejudice in our educational system.
