2 killed, 3 injured in fire in Kolkata cloth godown
Kolkata: A fire broke out in a fabric godown in north Kolkata early Monday, killing two people and injuring three. According to police, five people were trapped in the fire that broke out in a fabric go-down on the third floor of a commercial building on Pathuriaghata Street shortly after midnight.
"While three people could be rescued, two remained missing. Their remains were retrieved in the morning. They had no burn injuries. "They could have died of asphyxiation as a result of the smoke," stated an IPS officer from Kolkata Police. According to locals, the two deceased were local priests who lived in a small room near the terrace.
According to fire department officials, despite the fact that the incident began at 1 a.m., they were not notified until 3.30 a.m. "The fire started in a godown on the third story. We had to smash many locks and force our way into the building by bursting open the door on the terrace. "Two people were discovered unconscious near the locked terrace door," stated a firefighter.
