On Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved five essential actions in response to the Pahalgam terror assault in Kashmir. Among them is the immediate suspension of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, which will remain in effect until Islamabad eliminates its support for cross-border terrorism in a credible and irreversible way.
The terror attack, which occurred on Tuesday in South Kashmir's Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, killed 26 people, the most of them tourists. It is one of the most lethal strikes in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which killed 40 CRPF jawans. As they lamented the loss of their loved ones, the relatives of those killed in the Pahalgam terror incident urged the government to take quick action against those guilty for the cruel deed.
