Woman Kidnapped by Auto Driver, Gang-Raped, Stabbed in Odisha: Cops
In Jajpur, a woman was kidnapped by the driver of an auto-rickshaw while returning home from work. She was gang-raped and stabbed many times, according to authorities. The event occurred in Odisha's Jajpur town on the night of April 22, but it was only revealed on Sunday after the woman, who is in her late twenties, filed a police report after her condition improved.
She hailed an auto-rickshaw on her way home from work, but instead of taking her home, the driver drove her to a remote location on the outskirts of town, according to authorities. When she got inside the vehicle, there were two males in it besides the driver, and three additional drunk men were waiting for them at the secluded location, according to the police complaint.
The perpetrators bound the woman's hand with her dupatta and raped her. They allegedly attacked her with a knife before fleeing, leaving her to die. She managed to enlist the assistance of a bystander, who alerted her relatives. She was taken to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital in critical condition, with major injuries to her back, hands, and palm, among others. Police say they have filed a report and begun an investigation.
