Akhilesh Yadav mocks BJP over election of new chief, Amit Shah retorts with ‘dynastic’ jibe
Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its tardiness in electing a new president, sparking a verbal spat in the Lok Sabha during a debate on the Waqf Amendment Bill. "A party that claims to be the biggest political party in the world has still not been able to elect its own national president.
"Akhilesh Ji smiled when he made his comment, so I'll do the same. Only five family members are used to choose the national presidents of the parties in this House that are seated across from us. However, it takes time since our party must go through a procedure with 12–13 crore members. There is absolutely no delay in your party," Shah remarked.
Following that year's Lok Sabha elections, JP Nadda was named the BJP's acting national president on June 17, 2019. This position he held till January 20, 2020. Since his official election as the party's eleventh national president on January 20, 2020, Nadda has served in this capacity.
