Waqf amendment bill live updates: ‘It aims to divide people on religious lines,’ alleges Oppn parties

Waqf amendment bill live updates: The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was approved by the Lok Sabha early on Thursday following a fierce battle between the opposition parties and the Center in the Lower House of Parliament on Wednesday. After 288 MPs voted in favor of the bill and 232 opposed it, it was passed.

Throughout the debate, which lasted up to twelve hours, the opposition and the center traded jabs about the bill. The Center claims that changes must be made to the Waqf Board's operations, while the opposition views the law as "unconstitutional" and "anti-Muslim." Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi tore a copy of the law in protest during Wednesday's contentious debate, declaring, "I am tearing this Bill as this Bill is unconstitutional."

The BJP wants to foment disputes in our country over mosques and temples. For this reason, I denounce this. In reaction to the opposition, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju disputed that the bill was discriminatory against any group and claimed that India was the safest place for minorities. "Poverty-stricken Muslims will thank PM Modi for passing the bill," Rijiju stated.
