Opposition boycotts tea hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla: ‘Hope neutrality…’

As the budget session of Parliament came to an end, Congress Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore declared on Friday that all opposition leaders had agreed to abstain from the traditional tea hosted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. "Once more, the Hon. Speaker's tea was boycotted by all opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha. Tagore asked X, "I hope neutrality returns in the session."

Following the US President Donald Trump administration's 27% reciprocal tax on India, opposition MPs from the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), DMK, and other parties had earlier protested against the Center. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned sine die today, marking the formal end of the Budget Session, which started on January 31, 2025.

During his closing remarks at the 267th session of the Upper House, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar thanked the members of the House for their "valuable contribution and active participation."
