Wearing black badges in protest against Waqf Bill
Authorities in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, have issued notices and demanded ₹2 lakh bonds from 24 people who wore black badges to protest the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Superintendent of Police (City) Satyanarayan Prajapat provided reporters with information on Saturday, stating that 24 individuals were identified using CCTV footage and that they were then sent notifications.
Vikas Kashyap, the municipal magistrate, issued the summons based on a police complaint, ordering the 24 individuals to appear in court on April 16 and provide bonds of ₹2 lakh apiece as a surety for keeping the peace. These individuals were spotted in several local mosques on Jumat-ul-Vida, March 28, wearing black badges in opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
On Jumat-ul-Vida, the final Friday of Ramadan, Muslims nationwide were encouraged by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to demonstrate against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 by donning black armbands.
